The Eurofighter Typhoon is a twin-engine airplane, canard-delta wing, multirole fighter aircraft. The Typhoon airplane components were designed and is manufactured by a consortium of three companies; BAE Systems, EADS and Alenia Aermacchi, who conduct the majority of affairs dealing with the project through a joint holding company, Eurofighter Jagdflugzeug GmbH, which was formed in 1986.

The project is managed by the NATO Eurofighter and Tornado Management Agency, which also acts as the prime customer.

The Typhoon is the second European combat jet to fall short in securing a deal with the U.A.E. after Dassault Aviation SA (AM), a previous front-runner in the competition, fell out of favor two years ago. The U.S. has provided information on the Boeing Co. F/A-18E/F Super Hornet to gauge interest.
